About Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of concentrated attention on a subject and not a sleepy or 'zombified' state which people commonly associate via media and films.

It can be said that when watching a film, television or sporting fixture that the viewers or audience are hypnotised by the participants as their brains switch off from the pressures of normal life and concentrate on the subject.

Hypnosis in the terms of Hypnotherapy is generally a relaxed state where a trained therapist can communicate with the subconscious mind of the client and guide a client through a variety of pre-agreed ideas and thoughts which are the reasons for certain beliefs and fears. A person in hypnosis may appear to be sleeping and their body be in a state of deep relaxation, the person is awake and in communication with the therapist who is there to explore the mind and to find the reasons behind certain beliefs which maybe affecting the client.

Some describe hypnosis as 'magic on demand' where a person requires a magic wand to help them through an ordeal or every day occurrence. In fact it is not magic nor is Hypnosis a type of 'fairy godmother effect' for the therapist is not able to make someone better or make someone improve themselves but there to assist and help the client improve from within. Hypnosis is a type of guided meditation.

What does it feel like?

You may be more alert than normal, being able to taste, smell, feel and hear everything better than usual, but on the other hand you will feel deeply relaxed both mentally and physically in an 'almost asleep like' state.

Although it is true to say that just as each and every person is different and each and every person experiences hypnosis in a different way. It is also true to say that at the end of the session you may not feel any different however over the next few days and weeks the changes may become obvious to you and the outside world.

During the session you are in complete control. You are able to 'wake up' instantly if you need to. No one is made to look silly or become a belly dancer or cluck like a chicken like you see on TV. Whilst using a similar underlying technique to talk directly to your sub-conscious the therapy side is completely different. Abiding by a strict code of ethics Piers Day is unable to practice hypnosis for public amusement. No TV Cameras, drugs or Surgical Operations as Hypnotherapy is a totally natural physiological process.
