Man has evolved over many centuries. In the Stone Age, life threatening dangers presented themselves on a daily basis and two responses were important for survival. Hunting ferocious beasts one moment, being quiet with a partner or taking part in a bloody tribal battle the next. Primitive man responded in either of two ways if he was going to survive. Running or fighting. If they 'froze' or 'could not cope' they were history.
In modern 21 st century life none of these responses are appropriate. Instead, civilisation has brought with it new and complex demands to replace the life threatening ones. Because our autonomic system cannot differentiate between the various sources of arousal, being stuck in a 21st century traffic jam or being told that the project you have just completed is not good enough produces exactly the same bodily responses as being chased by a woolly mammoth or sabre tooth tiger. Our primitive response mechanism still works in exactly the same way whilst the responses themselves have become less and less appropriate.
Fighting your employer or your partner when you disagree is probably going to get you into more trouble than running away, but neither response is suitable or sensible. If we cannot respond to challenges in the way we were designed or programmed to do, some conflict is bound to result. It is called Stress. Piers Day will help you out of the Stress Trap experienced by individuals and business groups and to re-establish 'survival' skills for the 21st century. Piers will show you how to deal with the niggling things and the large things in the same way which will enable you to move your energy and motivation to where you want it rather than fighting your way through your day.
